Inspired by Family: How Yurii Started his Seafaring Career
Motivated by his father and uncle, both seasoned seamen, Yurii entered the maritime field at 19 years of age. Driven by the allure of being a seaman, he pursued a career as an electrician at sea. His journey began at maritime college, followed by balancing university studies and shipboard responsibilities. The initial challenges of low pay and rigorous demands were significant, but they laid the foundation for his robust career.
Passion for the Profession: A Continuous Learning and Growth as an ETO for Yurii
Starting his career as an electrical cadet, Yurii faced numerous challenges from navigating technical complexities to dealing with inadequate compensation at his first job. He quickly moved from being an electrical cadet to an ETO by the age of 21.
His role requires managing and troubleshooting the ship’s electrical systems, a task that involves continuous learning and adaptation to new challenges on each vessel. But this is what makes work exciting for Yurii. As he goes from contract to contract, vessel to vessel, he learns and solves challenges from different encounters on the vessels.
Despite already reaching the rank of ETO, Yurii remains enthusiastic about his role.
Mutual Respect: Yurii's Partnership With Seafair
Due to a minor misunderstanding from his previous agency, Yurii looked for other opportunities from other companies and that's where he encountered Seafair.
Yurii's experience with Seafair has been profoundly different from previous roles. He merited Seafair for its efficient communication, transparent practices, and respect for their seafarers.
It's comfortable to work with Seafair as mutual respect is a must for me, and I saw how Seafair respects their seafarers,
says Yurii.
The most important thing for him when working with agencies is mutual respect. Yurii values the idea that both the crewing agency and seafarers work together and so, respect is a give and take situation. It's not a one-sided relationship where the seafarers are the ones to do everything for the crewing agency. This mutual respect has not only made his work more enjoyable but also reinforced his decision to continue his career with Seafair.
